Paperchase Products Ltd

In an effort to cater for the rapid expansion of its business, Paperchase acquired an additional 6,240 m2 of warehousing to add to the 2,940 m2 it already had at its premises in Hitchin Road, Arlesey. The company is one of the country's largest distributors of fashion stationery and has an annual turnover of over £50million.

The warehouse acts as the central distribution depot for the company's national retail operation, provides a daily service for its chain of 74 shops in the UK, and a further rapidly growing market overseas in the USA, Singapore and Australia.

To enable the new warehousing facility to operate at maximum efficiency, particularly at times of peak demand, it was evident that a fully integrated and carefully planned installation of storage equipment was needed.

The equipment had to combine maximum storage capacity for the goods, palletised and hand picked, with both speed and ease of operation, at the same time, allowing for expansion of the equipment at a later date. During the installation work, it was also vital to cause minimum disruption to normal day to day operations while the work was going on.

To provide the storage equipment, Paperchase chose Atlas Handling of Baldock. Atlas Handling had proved their ability to perform quickly and effectively on earlier contracts for Paperchase.

Working to tight deadlines and in conjunction with Moresecure, Atlas were able to install Palletstor pallet racking to accommodate over 4,500 pallets, and over 1 ? miles of Euroshelf adjustable shelving, in just six weeks from receipt of order.
